The project involved the creation of a major regional sports, education and commercial development on a 25 hectare site adjacent to Bolton Arena and the Macron Stadium. Scheme stage design of steel framed composite structures accommodated a 20m high ‘’double stack’’ sports building to link with the existing Arena building and house 5-a-side football pitches and tennis courts together with a 50,000 sq ft, seven storey education building and a 250,000 sq ft six storey commercial building. Feasibility stage studies also included detailed Flood Studies in order to ‘’re-zone’’ areas of the site involving relocation of an area of functional floodplain in order to safely accommodate new development at the site and providing flood storage ‘’betterment’’.
