< Project - Industrial

Client: Haughton Estates
Architect: AEW Architects
Value: £40 million

This 67 hectare site which covers the former ‘RAF Calveley’ airfield has outline planning permission for circa 1.5 million square feet of industrial development which was proposed to be undertaken in a series of build phases. Earthworks modelling software was utilised in order to produce a cut / fill balance over the entire site area. A key civil engineering issue on this project was the design of the post development surface water and foul water drainage system. Percolation testing confirmed that the site was not suitable for the use of infiltration techniques and, accordingly, detailed negotiations were undertaken with the Canal and River Trust to agree the discharge of surface water and suitably treated foul water to the canal via existing / new outfall structures.
